A Thankful Turkey craft is a fun and creative way to celebrate Thanksgiving while expressing gratitude!
This project is great for kids and adults alike and can be displayed as a centerpiece, or it can be used as a special activity to reflect on the blessings in your life.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to making your own Thankful Turkey craft:
DIY Thankful Turkey Craft
Materials:
- Printed Turkey Template
- Scissors
- Your choice of paint or colours- we prefer watercolours!
- cellotape or glue stick
- Coloured cardstock
Instructions:
- Download and print the ‘Thankful Turkey Template’- linked below
- Cut out the turkey’s body and set aside.
- Colour in or paint the feathers- water colours give a lovely effect. Once done, leave to dry.
- Write something you’re thankful for on each feather. For example, you can write “Family,” “Health,” “Friends,” “Home,” or “Laughter.” You can also ask children what they’re thankful for, making it a great activity to engage everyone.
- Glue the feathers to the back of the turkey’s body, fanning them out like a traditional turkey tail. You can overlap them a bit to create a fuller, layered effect.
- Additionally, you can stick the completed turkey on cardstock.
Display Your Turkey:
- Once your turkey is finished, find a place to proudly display it! You can place it as a centerpiece on the dinner table. You can hang it on the wall. Alternatively, put it on the mantle. In Preschool, you can display it on the wall with a Thanksgiving title to tie it together.
- You could make a mini version of this turkey. Give it as a fun Thanksgiving gift.
Why it’s Special:
This Thankful Turkey craft combines creativity with gratitude. It’s a wonderful way to involve children in the Thanksgiving spirit. It also encourages them to reflect on the blessings in their lives. Plus, it’s an adorable addition to your holiday decorations!
