As part of Pasifika Languages Week, Fiji holds a special place in my heart. As someone from a Fijian-Indian background, My children know where they come from, and as a family we love honouring our roots, traditions, language, and values together. I take great pride in my culture and in sharing meaningful ways to celebrate it with my preschool children.
Fijian Language Week is a special time for preschool and school-aged children to explore Fiji’s vibrant culture and language. From 6–12 October 2024, children take part in fun, hands-on learning experiences that introduce them to the beauty of Fijian traditions.
In preschool, children sing traditional Fijian songs such as “Kana Mada” (included in the FREE activity pack), learn simple Fijian words, and listen to stories inspired by Fijian folklore.
Through creative and sensory activities, children begin to appreciate Fiji’s rich customs and traditions. They may create artwork inspired by traditional Fijian patterns or explore Fijian foods, making learning both engaging and meaningful.
Celebrating Fijian Language Week helps children develop an understanding and respect for different cultures. For children with Fijian heritage, it also supports a sense of acceptance, identity, and belonging.
Early exposure to diverse languages and traditions fosters curiosity, inclusivity, and a lifelong appreciation for cultural diversity.

BULA FIJI – COLOURING PAGE
A simple colouring page for children to colour or paint. With older preschoolers, encourage them to create Masi designs inside the bubble letters using a black marker, then paint with watercolours for a beautiful effect.
COUNTING 1–10 IN FIJIAN – COLOURING PAGES (2 pages)
Side-by-side English and Fijian number colouring pages. Perfect for mat time or circle time, or for children to complete and keep in their learning portfolios.
COLOUR IN THE FIJI FLAG
A follow-the-directions activity for older preschoolers. Show children the coloured Fiji flag first, then invite them to recreate it using the correct colours.
CUT AND PASTE ACTIVITY – COCONUT TREE
A fine-motor activity that supports hand-eye coordination. Children can colour, cut, and paste coconuts onto the coconut tree with adult supervision.
FIJIAN MASI FRAME
A versatile activity that can be used as a photo frame or art project. Children can colour the traditional Masi border and draw themselves or their families inside, celebrating Fijian culture, happiness, and love.
