Teaching Preschoolers About Dhul Qa’dah

Free Dhul Qa’dah Colouring Page Included

Introducing preschool children to this month is a wonderful way to teach peaceful values, kindness, and preparation for the special Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah. Young children learn best through simple conversations and hands-on activities, making this a perfect opportunity to introduce Islamic months in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.

To help support your learning, a free colouring page is included at the end of this post.

What is Dhul Qa’dah? (Preschool Friendly Explanation)

You can explain Dhul Qa’dah simply:

“Dhul Qa’dah is a special month in the Islamic calendar. It is one of the peaceful months where Muslims try extra hard to be calm, kind, and helpful.”

You can also share:

  • It comes before Dhul Hijjah
  • It is a peaceful and quiet month
  • It is a time to practice kindness and patience

Keep explanations short and repeat them throughout the month.

It’s one of the Sacred Months

Dhul Qa’dah is one of the four sacred months in Islam. These months are special times when Muslims are encouraged to increase good deeds and avoid wrongdoing.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“The year is twelve months, of which four are sacred: three consecutive months — Dhul Qa’dah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram — and Rajab…”
— Sahih al-Bukhari

This hadith helps children understand that this month is a peaceful and important month in Islam.

You may explain to preschoolers:

“Dhul Qa’dah is one of the special peaceful months. During this time, we try extra hard to be kind, gentle, and helpful.”
